EvoRoads’ consortium consists of 20 partners from all over Europe with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. To understand what’s behind EvoRoads and how it is relevant for citizens and other stakeholders we are launching a series of interviews with the project’s team. Today, we introduce dots.


Can you tell us a little about your organisation?

dots. is a technology company that helps cities and organizations make better decisions using data and technology. We build tools for road safety, mobility, and infrastructure monitoring, drawing on software development, artificial intelligence, and mapping and location data. Through projects like EvoRoads, we create practical, scalable solutions that support safer and more sustainable transport networks. Our goal is to help cities and organisations make better decisions through data and technology. 

What prompted your organisation to join the EvoRoads consortium? What is the role of your organisation in the project?

WeAreDots joined the EvoRoads consortium because the project aligns closely with our mission to use data and technology to improve mobility and road safety. EvoRoads provides an excellent opportunity to collaborate with leading European partners and test innovative solutions in real-world conditions. In the project, WeAreDots leads the Riga pilot, developing and deploying a low-cost sensor system that uses artificial intelligence and geospatial data to identify road surface defects and support safer infrastructure management. 

Which outcome is your organisation looking forward to the most?

he outcome we are most looking forward to is demonstrating how affordable, AI-powered monitoring solutions can support safer and more efficient infrastructure management at city scale. For WeAreDotsEvoRoads is an opportunity to validate technologies that combine sensing, geospatial analytics, and data sharing in a practical environment. The project’s results can also be applied in future smart mobility, digital twin, and infrastructure monitoring initiatives, helping cities make more informed and proactive decisions. 

Which aspects of EvoRoads do you think are going to be the most impactful for citizens and why?

The most impactful aspect of EvoRoads for citizens is the ability to monitor road and cycling infrastructure more efficiently and identify potential hazards at an early stage. Using sensor-equipped micromobility vehicles and artificial intelligence, infrastructure conditions can be assessed continuously rather than only during periodic inspections. This helps authorities gain a better understanding of where maintenance is needed, supporting safer and more comfortable journeys for cyclists, e-scooter users, and other vulnerable road users. 

Would you like to draw attention to something else?

Our key message is that better road safety doesn’t have to mean expensive equipment or large construction projects. EvoRoads shows how low-cost sensors, artificial intelligence, and everyday micromobility vehicles can gather genuinely useful information about the state of our roads and cycle paths. We think this is an approach many more cities and road authorities could adopt to maintain infrastructure smarter and at lower cost.
