The pilot takes place within IDIADA facilities located in Santa Oliva (near Barcelona), where clients (OEMs and Tier 1) test autonomous and connected vehicle’s solutions.
A specific road segment of the IDIADA road’s network has been selected for the pilot, which is frequently used by passenger cars, special vehicles and trucks, as well as vulnerable road users (pedestrians), to move between the offices/workshops and the IDIADA Proving Grounds. This road segment is being used 24/7 by different vehicle types and is under coverage of the private 5G network deployed at IDIADA. It is a bidirectional road which increases the possibilities in terms of infrastructure deployment’s locations (e.g. sensors, dynamic road panels, etc.), use cases and scenarios.

Objectives
- Deployment of low-cost sensors by EURECAT for data on road quality and maintenance: pavement wearing, pavement parameters such as asphalt texture and surface temperature
- Demonstration of roadside safety services for hazard, roadworks and maintenance by the deployment of CCAM services with 5G and edge computing capabilities to provide safety maintenance information and road deterioration conditions to road users
- Evaluation of detected risks to the other users of the road through dynamic signals / road panels connected to the infrastructure road sensors
- Definition of safety criteria related to CCAM operations, road infrastructure using smart data via Data Platforms and Road Infrastructure Digital Twin
- Integration of safety and V2I issues in asset management
- Prediction of infrastructure safety issues to provide safe travel conditions for automated vehicles
Use Cases
Maintenance & Quality Data: pavement wearing, pavement parameters such as asphalt texture and surface temperature
Notification I2V:
communication of the hazards, maintenance and quality information down to the vehicles nearby using V2X technology based on 5G
Risk Advertisement:
notification of the detected risks to road users through signals / road panels
